Hypnotherapy for Anxiety in Nottingham
Hypnosis for Anxiety Issues Nottingham
One of the most common problems dealt with in Hypnotherapy is anxiety. Anxiety is a feeling of unease, worry or fear. A little bit of anxiety (acute anxiety) can be helpful; for example, feeling anxious before an exam might make you more alert and improve your performance. But too much anxiety could make you tired and unable to concentrate.
Chronic anxiety is a much longer term experience which has existed for a considerable time such as a feeling of being stressed at work or because of a health issue, or money worries. Sometimes the individual will be aware of what sets off their anxious feelings, but in some cases these feelings may just happen without any obvious underlying trigger.
Symptoms of Anxiety
Anxiety often has both psychological and physical symptoms. Psychological symptoms can include:
- feeling worried or uneasy a lot of the time
- having difficulty sleeping resulting in chronic tiredness
- not being able to concentrate
- being irritable
- being extra alert – hypervigilant
- feeling on edge or unable to relax
- needing frequent reassurance from others
- feeling tearful a lot of the time
When you’re feeling anxious or stressed, your body naturally releases stress hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol. These hormones cause the physical symptoms of anxiety, such as breathing faster, or an increased heart rate.
Physical symptoms can include:
- increased heartbeat
- breathing faster, shortness of breath
- palpitations (irregular heartbeat)
- feeling sick, nausea
- chest pains
- muscle tension
- loss of appetite
- feeling faint
- needing to go to the toilet more frequently
- “butterflies” in your tummy
Anxiety can also be a symptom of another condition, such as a phobia, panic disorder (when you have panic attacks) or post-traumatic stress disorder, (PTSD) which can occur following the experience or witnessing of a life-threatening, frightening, and distressing event such as military combat, natural disasters, terrorist incidents, serious accidents, or physical or sexual assault.
Sadly, the symptoms of anxiety can escalate if help, and support are not given – leading to all sorts of complications emotionally, psychologically, and physically.
Help for Anxiety with Hypnotherapy in Nottingham, Newark-on-Trent, Bingham, Southwell and West Bridgford
The human mind is powerful. It controls the flow of thoughts and emotions, signaling the body to react accordingly. However, in life we do need to have some anxiety as it helps with problem-solving, and motivation.
It allows us to act quickly in dangerous or uncomfortable situations.
It can raise our creativity. It also allows our body to metabolise a lot of energy quickly which is very useful for sportspeople for example. However, Anxiety does need to be managed when the feelings it commands, reacts inappropriately to different situations, and starts to get out of control and create a negative influence on the way in which we live our lives. The mind mistakenly believes that there is danger and quickly signals the body to react.
Dr. Michael G Millett will teach you deep relaxation techniques to make you feel calm, and more relaxed, at Hypnotherapy Nottingham, Hypnotherapy Newark-on-Trent, and Hypnotherapy West Bridgford, Bingham, and Southwell and unlock your potential to break free of negative thought patterns, and to react more positively, and more confidently to situations in your life that may have previously made you anxious. He will help assess your anxiety, identifying the root cause, and whether it is a situation, a physical issue, a past experience or a relationship.
He will then work with you to reach your goals using a range of different techniques including EFT to help you feel more confident; more relaxed in situations that have previously challenged you. This will result in a calmer you with more clarity of thought, sleeping much better, and as a result are able to work more effectively, and able to make decisions more easily.

Treatment for Panic Attacks in Nottingham, and Newark-on-Trent
Panic attacks are High Intensity Anxiety Bouts, and mostly context related, but not in every case. For example a person might experience panic attacks when in an enclosed place. They will have an anxiety attack on a plane. They will panic in crowds. They will be highly anxious in a specific situation. There are endless scenarios, but the thought patterns are often similar to those some would describe as phobic. This condition is sometimes described as panic disorder. (More info)
Most people experience panic attacks just once or very infrequently, but many still find themselves in a constant pre-anxiety state of dread after one – worrying that the situation is going to repeat itself . This anticipatory fear is more common than full blown panic – this ‘fear of the fear’.
During the hypnosis work with Michael, many techniques are used to help you get over the ‘fear of the fear’ thought process. He works to direct your thinking in much better ways working with your mind, and imagination to be in control. Hypnosis techniques such as suggestion both direct and indirect, and metaphor and are used to help you to modify your thinking.
He works to change the automatic negative response at a more unconscious level. You may be asked to consider learning EFT from him to help you too.
